Safety

Safety is the state of being "safe" (from French sauf), the condition of being protected against physical, social, spiritual, financial, political, emotional, occupational, psychological, educational or other types or consequences of failure, damage, error, accidents, harm or any other event which could be considered non-desirable. This can take the form of being protected from the event or from exposure to something that causes health or economical losses. It can include protection of people or of possessions.

What You Can Do to Prevent Pest Encounters

Fortunately there are many ways to reduce and prevent a pest infestation without resorting to pesticides.

Things you can do in your room or office:
  • Ensure that all cracks and crevices around doors/windows/ A/C units are sealed. If not contact billeting to have the cracks repaired. Mice can enter an opening the diameter of a pencil and a rat can enter an opening the diameter of a quarter.
  • Make sure window screens are in good repair.
  • Avoid leaving dirty food containers’ sitting out as pests are attracted to foods and food smells.
  • Clean up food spills immediately.
  • All food should be stored in tightly sealing plastic or metal containers.
  • Keep all trash cans clean and covered.
  • Place all exterior trash cans as far away from entrances and exits of buildings as possible.
  • Have water and sewer leaks repaired immediately.
